According to a study carried out by Mercer consultants based on the prices from January to June 2003 in 144 metropolis worldwide, Barcelona is one of the least expensive cities in the whole world in which to live after Madrid and Lisbon.

This study, which analysed the cost of over 200 products and services, placed Barcelona in the 81th position out of the 144 cities taken into account. The most expensive city in the European Union is still London, and the most expensive city in the world is Tokyo, followed by Moscow in 2nd place and Osaka 3rd.
